Curt Tuckfield is an experienced author with a knack for tapping into the deepest root of human fear in new and surprising ways. He has been an enormous fan of the original Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark books since he was a young boy and the 30+ original stories in this book are his personal tribute to them.
Shane Hunt has been a professional artist for over a decade, working on a variety of projects from making video game art at the Walt Disney company to creating animations and illustrations for the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark documentary feature film. Shane consistently cites Stephen Gammell as one of his favorite artists of all time.
Over three years of work has gone into this.
As kids, Curt and I were traumatized in the best way by the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark books. They horrified and delighted us. In early 2016, we decided if anyone was going to make another Scary Stories book it would have to be us. We have spent hundreds of hours analyzing the writing style of Alvin Schwartz and the art of Stephen Gammell. This project is the culmination of that effort.
Our goal in making this book was simple; to scare ourselves. We made this book because we wanted it. We knew that if we didn’t feel like it was an authentic Scary Stories experience, then no one else would either.
The stories are written, but need professional editing. Most of the drawings are finished digitally, and now need to be recreated using graphite and ink wash. The bulk of the work is done. Now we just need your help getting the word out. We hope that you’ll join us in that effort!
We look forward to launching our kickstarter in Fall 2019.
